Inspired by Paul Jackson
The weekend has come and I finally don't have any plans! It feels great because I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. This has been a quiet morning of photo editing and dodging foul basketballs while watching my husband's intramural team. I am so glad for this little break from work and school, at least for a little while.
I ran across some origami paper a few days ago and couldn't leave without it. This was black and white and quietly patterned in a way that i hadn't seen before. I started looking for origami artists to inspire me and ran across Paul Jackson. His work is amazing because it is geometric and colorful. Plus, his site has some great instructions for simpler pieces.
The 'pecking bird' looks like an easy, fun piece to try! The shapes of his designs were gorgeous, but I found that I was drawn to the pattern of the paper more than the idea of folding it. So, I decided to create a project that allowed me to use and connect with the pattern as more than a paper sculpture. It was super easy and beautiful by the end!
The first step is to cut the paper into strips 1/8" wide.
Then lay them face down and paint some glue on them before lining the strips up with the sides of the pencil.
Wow. Two steps and three ingredients later...
I tied a few together with twine for a pretty, simple package. They would be great as a gift for the beginning of school, or anytime. They stayed on surprisingly well while sharpening after they dried!
