5 Weaving Projects Besides Tapestries
I get asked ‘what else can you weave besides wall hangings’ all the time. I love a pop of texture on a wall, but I know that once your walls fill up, you probably want another use for weaving. The good news is that weaving has so many practical and decorative uses, so you will never run out of projects. Below I am highlighting some other projects either from my books or website.

1. JEWELRY
Okay, so this particular project actually isn’t from one of my books. Before I started weaving I loved making jewelry, so when I started dabbling in fiber arts, I couldn’t help but combine my two hobbies. Woven jewelry can be chic and high end - it doesn’t have to look like you’re wearing something your kindergartener brought home for Mother’s Day!
2. PILLOWS
One of the prettiest ways to display your work is as a pillow on your couch! It brings your handywork to a more accessible position so that guests can admire your skills up close. You can learn how to turn any tapestry into a pillow with my tutorial HERE.
3. CLOTHING
Believe it or not, you CAN weave patterns on a frame loom! A simple project might be a scarf, but by tracing simple sewing patterns onto your warp and weaving inside the lines I created this fun vest for my second book, Welcome to Weaving 2.
4. POUCH
You can showoff your techniques with a storage item like a pouch or a purse. Depending on how delicate the materials and techniques are, you might want to keep it for special occasions. But there’s nothing more useful than a thing that holds other things! This pouch is from the cover of my second book, Welcome to Weaving 2.
5. RUGS
Yes, you can make your own rug on a frame loom. It would have to be a giant frame loom, but it is possible! The decision to actually let people walk all over it when you are done is the hard part of this project…
There are even more useful projects that you can weave. Bookmarks, placemats table runners, curtain ties, belts… the list goes on. I hope this post helped you think outside the box!
