Hello! This week I want to share some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way about an important topic…creative block. Creative block is so common with makers and it can be very frustrating, but we can try a few things to get back in the zone. Our creative practice is unique to each of us, but here are a few things that work for me. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter to get the best things in your inbox!

Let’s dive in!

  1. Approach a new project in a different medium. There are so many ways to express your creativity, like clay or painting. Sometimes trying something new is all it takes to break out of your creative block and have ideas come flooding back in!

  2. Have a cache of ideas on Pinterest. Pinterest is a wealth of inspiration! Even try stocking up on inspiration from other things, like interior design or pretty cakes. Totally different things that you are drawn to can spark a new idea!

  3. Always keep notes of ideas on google drive. Take advantage of your creative flow and make note of any and all ideas you have for when creative block hits. If you don’t have a list going, try brainstorming a big list of ideas that come into your head, even if they are silly. This can help you loosen up and you are sure to find a few great ideas for your next project!

  4. Always have project you are excited for. Looking forward to something can really help you stay in the zone and not hit the creative block wall. Is there something you’ve been waiting to try but haven’t had time? Now is the perfect time!

  5. Go where the creativity leads. Do you feel the tug to try something new or different? Follow that pull, it may lead to something exciting and fun!

  6. Give yourself time. Blocks are part of the creative process and you don’t need to be afraid of sitting in the unknown for a bit. Allow yourself to rest if you need it, or find other areas of your life to express creativity. Read a new book, cook a fun dinner, or go to a dance class. Sometimes it takes so time to find a creative spark again, and that it okay!

Do you have other things that help you get through the tough days creatively? I’d love to hear what you do to get past it or if you try any of these tricks!
